Expert: drought may affect fruit and berries harvest in Latvia

Maris Narvil, a senior horticulture expert at the Latvian Agricultural Education and Advisory Center, said in an interview with Latvian Radio that if enough rain does not fall in July, this can ruin part of the crop. For the situation to stabilize today, it is necessary that the rain continue in different places for three days. If an instant fall happens, nothing but flooding awaits us. If there is more rain in July and August, it will not affect the harvest said Narvil. Not the first year in Latvia, precipitation is not enough for a good harvest of berries and fruits. This year, only a third of the usual norm fell in a number of places, the expert noted. The most difficult situation due to drought has developed today in the west of Kurzeme.
