Pompeo called China the main threat to the United States among foreign countries

The main external threat to the United States in the medium and long term was called China by US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo on September 28 in an interview with Fox News. Pompeo said that the threat from the ruling regime of China, the Communist Party of China under the leadership of Xi Jinping, is the biggest external threat to the United States both in the medium and long term. The US Secretary of State noted that the Chinese Communist Party was able to penetrate the United States in ways that no one had previously used, including Russia. Earlier, the news agency reported that according to Pompeo, the greatest threat to the United States comes from the Communist Party of China.
Beijing called on Washington to stop exaggerating the alleged threat from China to "stop provocative remarks" and "strictly respect China's sovereignty and territorial integrity". Trump and Xi are meeting at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit on November 10 and November 11 in Papua New Guinea. They discussed the bilateral trade issue and Trump and Xi agreed to suspend the imposition of new tariffs on each other.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said Beijing has every right to safeguard its interests. The Chinese official said that Beijing has been actively seeking to resolve the trade issue with Washington and that the United States had not abided by the mutual agreement made by Trump and Xi at the Group of 20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina on December 1-2, 2018. Pompeo said that the United States would impose 25-percent tariffs on Chinese products worth $50 billion on January 1, 2019, and that tariffs on another $200 billion worth of Chinese private banks.
